When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost? (From Goodreads, 26th June 2013)

Review:

Okay so this is a difficult review to write as it is the 5th and last book in The Mortal Instruments series. I don’t want to give things away. So I am going to keep it short and not as detailed as some of my other reviews.

After finding City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4) not on par with the first three books in the series. City of Lost Souls makes up for that. Loved it. It was fantastic and set me up for getting started on the prequel series The Infernal Devices.

This is an exciting novel that keeps you turning to the next page. But if you have got to this novel you obviously enjoy the series!

The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She’s training to become a Shadowhunter and – most importantly of all – she can finally call Jace her boyfriend. But nothing comes without a price. Someone is murdering the Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second, bloody war. And when Jace begins to pull away from her without explaining why, Clary is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: she herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace. (From Amazon.co.uk, 15th April 2013)
Review:

I love, love, love this series. I was slightly annoyed by the ending of City of Glass, which I mentioned in the review I did of City of Glass not that long ago!

So things are supposed to have calmed down, Clary and Jace are together, Magnus and Alex are off traveling, Luke and Clary’s mum are about to get married….but no things are not going to stay like that. Simon’s mum finds his stash of blood and cannot stand the sight of her son. Jace is pulling away from Clary due to terrifying nightmares. Shadowhunters are being killed. The Vampire Camile has returned to New York and wants Simon…as you can see things are far from calm.

I enjoyed City of Fallen Angels more than I did City of Glass, but it is a new story in a sense, now that valentine is gone. We here from a lot of characters perspectives in this novel, more so than before, where we typically heard Clary’s view point. Simon plays a more integral part and it is refreshing to see him stand by himself.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get into City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) and the last in The Mortal Instruments Series.

These books make you sit and read and read, and leaving you wanting more. I am so glad I have The Infernal Devices to get into after this! The Infernal Devices is the Prequel series to The Mortal Instruments.

I have said it before and I will say it again – go out and buy these books.

4.5 out of 5!

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what’s normal when you’re a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who’s becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn’t ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary’s only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father? (From Goodreads, 22nd February 2013)

Review:

Wow! I love this series! I must admit it is gripping me as Harry Potter once did! Different type of novel but just as exciting! I have been completely sucked in and cannot wait to move onto City of Glass (#3 in the Mortal Instruments Series). I don’t want to give too much away as it would give away what happens in City of Bones (#1 in the Mortal Instruments Series) but I loved it!

We begin to learn more about all the characters, more histories and more shocks of powers and actions and the messed up politics of the clave, past demons, past relations. But we get even more entangled in new mysteries and doubts and a thirst for more answers. This is what is good about this series, it keeps building up and leaving you wanting more – so in some ways I am glad that I waited to start this series now when I can just go onto the next book as I finish each one!

Action packed and twisting and turning. Grab this series and get reading if you haven’t already!!!

4.5 or possibly 5 out of 5!!

In My Mailbox 007

In My Mailbox is a weekly Meme hosted by The Story Siren allowing bloggers to share what books they have got there hands on that week!

I haven’t really bought any books since Christmas but decided to raid The Works and get some bargains to keep me going – even though I do have a lot of books to get round to reading! Woops! The Works is a good shop to get book bargains for those in the UK. My total cost was £21.96 but if they had all been at R.R.P it would have cost £73.90 so think I did rather well!

Click on the images and they will take you to the Goodreads page.

Books one to four in The Mortal Instruments Series By Cassandra Clare. Each just £2.99 each! I have heard so many good things about this series so I grabbed them as soon as I saw them! Looking forward to getting stuck into these!

The Iron Knight (The Iron Fey #4) By Julie Kagawa. I got the first three books in the Iron Fey Series at the beginning of the year and have read the Iron King and really enjoyed it. So when I saw this I knew I had to pick it up.

Extras (Uglies#4) By Scott Westerfeld. If you saw my ‘Dust of that Shelf’ post I wanted to get this series read eventually, so picked up this when I saw it!

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden #1) By Julie Kagawa. I have heard a lot about this book so thought it was worth a try!

Silence (Hush, Hush #3) By Becca Fitzpatrick. Another series that I have heard a lot about, I still need to get Crescendo (Hush, Hush#2) but when you see a bargain you grab it!

If I Stay By Gayle Forman. I have wanted to read this for ages! So glad I saw it!

Possessed By Niki Valentine. Looked very interesting and it said if you liked Black Swan then you’d love this. Really liked Black Swan so it is work a try.

That is all I got! The last six books were on a three for £5 offer. Think I got myself quite a few bargains!
